Blue Ridge Beef Issues Recall For Kitten Mix Due To Salmonella

Blue Ridge Beef is recalling 1,350 pounds of its 2 lb Kitten Mix due to possible Salmonella contamination. The affected products were distributed between July 18 and July 26, 2024, in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York.

The recalled product is packaged in clear plastic and should be checked against the following details:

  • Product: Kitten Mix (2 lb)
  • UPC: 854298001436
  • Lot Number: N25-0716

Salmonella poses risks to both pets and humans. Infected pets may experience lethargy, diarrhea, fever, or vomiting, while humans handling contaminated food may develop nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and fever. Severe cases can lead to more serious health conditions. Pet owners noticing symptoms in their pets should contact a veterinarian.

The contamination was confirmed after a customer complaint led to testing by the Massachusetts Department of Agriculture Resources and the Massachusetts State Public Health Laboratory. The FDA notified the company of the positive test on January 3, 2025.

Consumers should return or dispose of the recalled product and sanitize any surfaces it touched. Do not sell, donate, or feed it to animals. For more information, contact Blue Ridge Beef at 704-873-2072.
