The Chihuahua Pomeranian mix is not classed as a breed and is known as a hybrid i.e. a mixture of two breeds. This cute litttle dog is also reffered to as a Pomchi or Chiranian.
Due to the fact that this dog is a mixture of two breeds your Pomchi may inherit more traits from his dad or his mum and vice versa.

The Facts
Appearance…
- The color can vary (as you can see in the pictures). You may have a black, sable, brown, merle or solid colored dog.
- The ears are normally medium in size and are normally erect when alerted to a noise but they can also lay back flat too.
- The muzzle is quite short and pointed.
- The tail is quite long and normally curls over the back.
- The hindquarters are quite sturdy and muscular.
Weight…
- The weight of the Pomchi varies from 5 – 12 pounds.
Coat…
- The coat can be single or double coated. The coat should appear glossy and full.
Eyes…
- The Pomchi’s eyes have a habit of getting a buildup of discharge which can leave the fur discolored and stained. You can use Q-Tip to clean the area around the eyes or speak to your vet for advice on some good eye care products.
Teeth…
- Pomeranians are quite prone to developing a build up of bacteria around their teeth. Speak to your vet about purchasing a good enzymatic toothpaste that can fight any bacteria build up. Take a look at our section on brushing dogs teeth for more advice.
Temperament…
- The Pomchi are very intelligent and extremely sociable. They love to be around the family and love lying on laps. The Pomchi can sometimes be difficult to house train but as long as you use reward based training can remain fair and consistent you shouldn’t have any problems.
ACHC…
- The American Canine Hybrid club recognize the Pomchi and have given it the name of ‘Chiranian’ as opposed to ‘Pomchi’.
Lifespan…
- The Pomchi has a lifespan of about 12-18 years.
