Causes

• Although the exact cause of this condition is still unknown it is generally believed to be caused by excessive eating and drinking of water then followed by exercise.

• Stress is also believed to contribute to the condition.

• Genetics and the size of your dog’s chest may also play a part in why your dog develops the illness.

• This conditions is caused by a build up of gas in your dog’s stomach.

• The build up of gas then causes the stomach to twist 180-360 degrees between the esophagus and the duodenum or at the beginning and end of the stomach.

• When the stomach twists it becomes constricted alongside the blood vessels causing the stomach tissue to die.

• Usually treatment if the condition is found early involves a tube being inserted into your dog’s stomach to relieve the build up of gas.

• A vet need to operate on your dog’s stomach if the stomach has become twisted.

• Enzymes could be added to your dog’s food.

Reducing the Chances of your Dog getting Bloat

• Don’t feed your dog from an elevated postition.

• Don’t allow your dog to drink too much water, eat too fast or exercise him straight after eating.

• Don’t overfeed your dog and keep your dog to 2-3 small meals a day.

• When you feed your dog do it in a quiet place without distractions.
