Where Is Fancy Feast Made?

Nestle Purina owns 20 different manufacturing facilities throughout the United States, and several more facilities overseas. According to our research, we believe that Fancy Feast is manufactured in facilities located in the United States.

Although we are fairly confident that Fancy Feast is manufactured in the United States, the packaging does not mention the phrase "Made In The USA." This would suggest that some of the ingredients added to the cat foods are sourced from outside the United States.

When ingredients are sourced overseas from reputable locations, brands typically display this information on the packaging. Usually, when this information is not favorable, it is nowhere to be found on the packaging. We looked at several varieties of Fancy Feast, none of the products we looked at provided any information regarding the origin of ingredients used.

The FTC governs the labeling of products as "Made in the USA." The rule states that all or virtually all significant parts and processing that go into the product must be of US origin. In other words, the ingredients and the manufacturing must occur in the United States.

In general, supplements are the most common type of ingredient sourced from outside the United States. Unfortunately, there seems to be a lack of supply available in the United States. Therefore, the larger brands (by sales) are forced to import the needed supplements from overseas.

Is Fancy Feast Pet Food Safe?

As we've mentioned earlier, Fancy Feast has never been recalled. Given that Fancy Feast has been available for almost four decades without a single recall, we have no reason to question the safety of this brand.

However, Fancy Feast is owned by Purina which has been involved in some very serious pet food recalls, including the 2007 series of recalls caused by melamine contaminated wheat gluten.

Fancy Feast is one of Purina's more premium brands of cat food. Most likely, the company is very concerned with the reputation of this brand. Therefore, Purina most likely takes extract precautions to ensure that Fancy Feast maintains its reputation.
